Hanger Steak with Scallions & Ginger

I love this steak. I used a hanger steak and marinated it overnight and the result was tender and flavorful. This recipe will pair well with any side dish. If you are doing a round of Whole30, omit the honey. Be sure to slice the steak, against the grain after it is cooked. It’s an easy recipe that will certainly impress whoever you are cooking for, even if that is just yourself.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 lbs.  hanger steak
  • 1/4 C coconut aminos
  • 1 T sesame oil
  • 1 T minced ginger root
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 T honey (omit for Whole30)
  • 2 scallions (green onions), thinly sliced
  • 2 T sesame seeds

Instructions
  1. In a small bowl whisk together the coconut aminos, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and honey. Place the hanger steak in a small container with a lid and pour the coconut amino mixture over the top. Cover the container and place it in the refrigerator. Marinate for a minimum of 1 hour. The longer you marinate the stronger the flavor, I prefer marinating overnight.
  2. After the steak has marinated, grill to your desired doneness. For medium-rare it was about 5-7 minutes per side. Once you have reached your desired doneness, place the steak on a cutting board and let rest for about 5 minutes.
  3. After the steak has rested, thinly slice it against the grain and sprinkle with the scallions and sesame seeds before serving.
  4. Enjoy with your favorite side dish.
